Rarely does a day like day come along where so many fandoms collide. Today's date is no coincidence - 5 + 25 + 12 = 42 (the ultimate number! Don't get it? Go read/watch Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). Today also marks the 35th anniversary of the original Star Wars movies as well as the announcement that Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor, will be running the Olympic Torch in part of the relay for the London Olympics. Many of us were hoping that David Tennant would be running instead to keep in geeky canon with the Doctor Who episode, "Fear Her," but one of my friends put it best...

(For those who don't know, my dear friend Ryan Jones (pictured above) was not only one of the best human beings you'd ever meet, but he was also known as the best 10th Doctor costumer around.)I really wanted to dress up for Geek Day, but unfortunately I'm still sick. That nagging little cough I had took a turn for the worse. I decided to give my coworkers some peace and quiet yesterday and stayed home from work. I downed as much tea, water, and cough medicine I could handle in my attempt to be stubborn and not go to the doctor (for various reasons). But towards the afternoon I tried taking a nap only to go into another violent coughing fit. So my mother, bless her, hauled my bum out of bed and to the clinic. It was a very good thing she did too. I was diagnosed with acute bronchitis complete with low-grade fever. An infection had (and is still going) settled in which was a red flag of the potential for pneumonia. So I was sent home with a nice cocktail of antibiotics and narcotics. On the good side, that means we caught it before it became pneumonia as well as catching it towards the weekend so I don't have to miss too much work. On the not-so-good side, I have to drop out of the rest of the Tennessee Renaissance Festival. It's all outdoors for 12+ hours a day with no real way to keep clean. There's an Orange Alert for poor air quality at the moment and the temperatures are supposed to hit record highs. So I'm quarantined to my house for the next few days.
In other news, I received a lovely surprise in my inbox yesterday. Michael Bielaczyc from Aradani Studios used me in my deer costume as inspiration for a drawing of an Elfling for a new ebook he's working on called "The Elves of Uteria." I feel incredibly honoured. Below is the illustration. You can read more about it here ----> /http://michaelbielaczyc.com/blog/2012/05/elfling-enchantress/
Yay for being used as inspiration ... you've arrived, yes? Lol!
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself, and enjoy your weekend :)
Yeah, something like that? :P
ReplyDeleteThankfully, my parents are around to help me feel better. I've been taking all my medicine and taking it easy (which is no small feat for me. I keep wanting to be productive and start working. Bad idea!).
